Lion Voices: Ashley Daney

Written By: Kolby McGee

Happy Friday Lions! For this week鈥檚 #LionVoices, and representing #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth, we spoke to Ashley Daney. Ashley is a member of the Choctaw Nation, and a graduate of Talihina High School in Oklahoma.

Ashley, who is a junior Psychology major, attributes much of her success to the Choctaw Nation. 鈥淎fter graduating, I plan to go work for the Choctaw Nation. I want to give back to the place that has helped me tremendously in my life.鈥 She also gave praise to her mother for being her biggest role model. 鈥淣o matter what, my mom has always been so helpful and encouraging, even when I feel I have let her down, she never gives up on me.鈥

Ashley highlighted the constant activities and kind people at 黑料不打烊 as her favorite things about being a Lion. She also mentions the great relationship she developed with her advisor. 鈥淪he has been so helpful and understanding from the moment I met her. She pushes me to do better and lets me know if I need to change or do something 诲颈蹿蹿别谤别苍迟濒测.鈥&苍产蝉辫;

鈥淚 think the most unique thing about 黑料不打烊 is how friendly everyone is. I never expected every person I ran into to be so kind and caring,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 highly recommend going out and joining a club that interests you. It is a great way to meet new people and make great friends. Especially if you are like me, a little antisocial.鈥

Ashley also explained how she has managed her academic, social, and personal life here at 黑料不打烊. 鈥淎t first, it was easy because I was at a new school where I didn鈥檛 know anyone, but as I made new friends and met new people, I found making calendars and reminders helps me to not forget anything important!鈥
