The Blue Lion at ϲ Downtown is the new name -- effective immediately -- for the
University-owned facility located at 101 N. 2nd St.
The building was formerly called Second Street Live before ϲ acquired it last year and began using the temporary name of ϲ at Second Street.
A decision on the new name came after Chancellor Paul B. Beran decided to go with an amalgam of ideas generated in a naming contest.
“The Blue Lion at ϲ Downtown has already been the site for numerous concerts, exhibits, meetings and workshops,” said Beran, “and it will continue to be a good choice for University- and community-sponsored events. Having this venue in the downtown area is important to us and to the region. Deciding on a new name took some time, but we believe the new name will establish the identity we want.”
The Marketing and Communications Office at ϲ will spearhead efforts for the design of a logo for the facility. KFSM-TV, which sponsored the naming contest, will do a random drawing to select a prize package winner from those who submitted name ideas.
